Handshake Profile

Updating your profile is the first thing you should do in Handshake. This allows the system to send you information that is relevant to your interests.

In addition, by completing your profile you are 50% more likely to have an employer reach out to you, compared to students who don’t have a complete profile.

Basic Profile

If you are a current student, your basic profile information is imported from Catalyst. You can edit your Name, Summary, Skills, Work Experience, Education, Courses, Organizations, Projects, and Languages.

  1. From the home page, click your initials or picture thumbnail in the upper right corner.
  2. Select My Profile.
  3. To edit a section, click the pencil icon.

Add Professional Documents

You can upload documents to your profile, such as a resume, cover letter, transcript, and the like. Having these documents on your profile allows you to apply to jobs through Handshake much faster than uploading them every time.

  1. From your homepage, click your initials or picture thumbnail in the upper right corner.
  2. Select Documents.

Pro Tip: Select Public for one resume to make it visible to employers.

Indicate Your Career Interests

Handshake uses machine learning to customize its offerings based on your interests. Help the system learn more about your goals by completing the Career Interests section.

  1. From your homepage, click your initials or picture thumbnail in the upper right corner.
  2. Select Career Interests.

Set Notification Preferences

Tell Handshake how you want to be notified about events, interview schedules, jobs, and more.

  1. From the home page, click your initials or picture thumbnail in the upper right corner.
  2. Select Notification Preferences.
  3. From here, select from the dropdown boxes how you want to be notified for each category.

Privacy Settings

We understand how important privacy is. Review the privacy settings to choose who can see your profile.

  1. From your homepage, click your initials or picture thumbnail in the upper right corner.
  2. Select Settings, then Privacy.
  3. Choose who you want to see your Handshake profile.

Pro tip: if you are applying to jobs and co-ops, it is recommended that you select the Employers or Community option.

Log in to Handshake using your UC username and password. An account has already been created for you.
