Counter Fellowship

Fellows meet once a month to discuss their projects, reflect on members' varied theoretical and methodological approaches, and provide substantive feedback to one another. Each fellow receives a $2,000 stipend.

Faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students working on research and/or creative projects that directly engage the Center’s annual theme and would benefit from cross-disciplinary exchange are a fit for the 2026–27 Counter Fellows program. This opportunity is open to scholars from across UC whose work engages both the theme and humanistic inquiry, broadly conceived.

Fellows will meet once a month to discuss their projects, reflect on members varied theoretical and methodological approaches, and provide substantive feedback to one another.

• All meetings will be held in person at the Taft Research Center, Edwards 1, Suite 1100, the last Monday of each month, 2–4pm. Refreshments will be provided.
• Taft will support up to 6 faculty and/or postdoctoral fellows and 12 graduate students. Fellows will meet as a large group once each semester and then in smaller groups divided by rank and/or thematic clusters. Fellows must commit to attending all sessions: August 31, September 28, October 26, November 23, January 25, February 22, March 29 & April 26.
• Fellows will share their work-in-progress for feedback at least once during the year and provide feedback on other fellows’ work throughout the year.
• Each fellow will receive a $2,000 stipend, paid in two installments (fall/spring).

Awardees remain eligible for other awards.

To apply, the following must be sent as a single PDF attachment to taft@ucmail.uc.edu by the specified deadline:

1. 500-word statement of interest that outlines your current research and/or creative project (including a title, guiding questions, methods, sources/materials, theoretical framework, current state of the work, and anticipated work during the fellowship period) and its alignment with the Counter theme
2. 200-word personal statement on your experience with and/or interest in cross disciplinary dialogue and what you hope to gain from the fellowship
3. Abbreviated 2-page CV
4. Names and contact information for 2 UC references who can speak to your cross disciplinary fluency and/or the merits of your project. No letters are required.
