Graduate Summer Fellowship

Students receive $3,000 to fund their research and are offered dedicated time away from other commitments to focus on their project(s). Recipients may not have other commitments during the support period, but projects need not encompass the entire summer.

Graduate students enrolled in a Taft-eligible program and conducting research projects over the summer, with supervision from a faculty mentor, are eligible for this $3,000 award.

Projects must be relevant to the student's degree path and completable within the support timeframe.

Awardees remain eligible for other awards.

Applications must be received through the online portal no later than 5PM on the day of the published deadline. Applicants may not bypass any component of the system or ask the committee to instead view any additional uploaded documents. Applicants are encouraged to write for a general (non-disciplinary) audience.

A complete application must include the following: 

1. A narrative of no more than 10,000 characters (~1,500 words), including the following:
   1. An abstract of no more than 150 words
   2. Project description, including theoretical framework, methods and sources
   3. Preliminary/expected results
   4. The significance of the project to your discipline
   5. A detailed project timeline of major landmarks for the project during the project period.
2. A single PDF upload containing the following:
   1. An abbreviated (two-page) curriculum vitae (CV)
   2. Transcript(s) or other records summarizing the applicant's graduate career.
3. A support letter from the student's advisor or project director, or the graduate program director commenting on the role of the project in the student's degree program, the significance of the project to the field and their development, and the student's ability to complete. Students must communicate with their advisor or Director of Graduate Studies and have them submit a letter through the prompt (sent to the email address listed by the applicant, once application is submitted).

• Graduate students may not have other commitments during the support period, but projects need not encompass the entire summer.
• Fellowships are not cost-based; payments are made directly to the students. Accordingly, a budget is not required.
