The Quantification Struggle Over Workplace Heat Safety: Socio-Cultural Dimensions of Heat Triggers and Temperature Measurements

This project explores the quantification struggle over the design and enactment of workplace heat temperature triggers as global temperatures rise. I analyze administrative documents shaping federal heat safety guidelines for U.S. workplaces (2021-2025) and interview how workplace actors negotiate different instruments to quantify heat realities. Thermal measurements are frontline conflicts of climate change adaptation, state-market boundaries, and labor-management relations.
