Ambient Violence, Democratic Being, and Political Subjectivity in Contemporary India
My project examines Hindu nationalist violence and emerging Muslim political subjectivities in India, with a focus on understanding how a climate of ambient majoritarian violence shapes political agency among religious minorities. In doing so, the project puts forth the concept of democratic being as the embodied, relational, and affective capacity of individuals and communities to participate in democratic life.
