What would expanded access to GLP-1s mean for the obesity rate?

The World Health Organization recently issued its first guidance on GLP-1 medications for adults with obesity — recommending long-term, continuous use when clinically appropriate. Malti Vij, MD, University of Cincinnati adjunct associate professor in the College of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine, appeared on Cincinnati Edition on 91.7 WVXU News to discuss GLP-1s and what expanded insurance coverage of the medications might mean for Americans.

UC College of Engineering and Applied Science receives $10 million scholarship estate gift

December 4, 2025

A $10 million estate gift from Ray Brooks, CEAS ’83, and Connie Brooks will benefit generations of students at the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science. The impact of the Connie and Ray Brooks Scholarship Fund, originally established in 2018 with a five-figure donation, will be far-reaching for UC students and the engineering industry.

CCM hosts Conducting Master Class March 5-8, 2026

UC College-Conservatory of Music hosts the CCM Conducting Master Class on March 5-8, 2026. Open to emerging and established conductors, participants will have the opportunity to learn from CCM Director of Orchestral Studies Mark Gibson while working with the CCM Philharmonia.

CCM Musical Theatre student is semifinalist in American Pops Orchestra NextGen Collegiate Vocal Competition

CCM Musical Theatre student, Nick Gundrum, has been chosen as a semifinalist for the American Pops Orchestra NextGen Collegiate Vocal Competition. The NextGen Competition was founded by APO Music Director, Maestro Luke Frazier, and is dedicated to celebrating collegiate students who show promise in popular song, musical theatre and jazz. The Next Gen Competition evaluates students based on vocal technique, stage presence and interpretive skill.

CCM talent featured on several Grammy Award-nominated albums

Four UC College-Conservatory of Music alumni and an alumnus from CCM Prep's Starling String Project are among the nominees named in the 2026 Grammy Awards. Presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the 68th Annual Grammy Award ceremony takes place on Sunday, Feb. 1 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, broadcasting live on the CBS Television Network and streaming live and on demand on Paramount +.

Glomerular disease treatment guidelines updated

Given the rapidly growing evidence base in glomerular disease, the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes group, known as KDIGO, recently published an updated clinical practice guideline for the management of immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) and immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV). University of Cincinnati nephrologists recently shared what's new and what's next with MedCentral.

UC to lead study on extended use of drug in ACL reconstructions

December 1, 2025

The University of Cincinnati will lead a national study that could have a major effect on how people, especially teens, recover from ACL surgery. It will soon begin enrolling patients in a clinical trial. The study will look at the effectiveness of using a surgical drug post-operatively to speed up recovery. Tranexamic acid (TXA) is already regularly used during surgeries to limit bleeding.

Uptick in cyber attacks targeting local government agencies

WVXU’s Cincinnati Edition noted a recent rise in cyber attacks on social services and government agencies across the country. The show turned to Peter Kobak, associate director of Ohio Persistent Cyber Improvement at the University of Cincinnati’s Ohio Cyber Range Institute for insight on what could be driving the attacks.

Presidential challenge to UC: Join Ride Cincinnati to fight cancer

July 16, 2024

UC President Neville Pinto has again challenged every UC college and unit to send at least one rider to the September 14 Ride Cincinnati event to help fundraise for cancer research and cancer care. UC students ride free. Signup by July 31 for free UC-branded cycling jersey.
