University Funding Board
What is the University Funding Board?
University Funding Board (UFB) allocates a portion of the general fee money to eligible Registered Student Organizations (RSO) that promote interaction and awareness through on and off-campus events that serve to directly benefit the entire student body.
UFB Funding Eligibility
- Must be a registered student organization (RSO) with the Student Activities Board (SAB) via GetInvolvedUC and remain in good standing with SAB and the university
- Must be open to all students. Organizations with selective membership criteria or that charge dues are ineligible for UFB funding*
- Must have a primarily undergraduate roster*
- Must not receive a regular allocation from any other UC funding sources (i.e. deparments/colleges, Graduate Student Government, SACUB, etc.)
More information can be found in the UFB Handbook and on UFB's GetInvolvedUC page.
- Budget Requests must be submitted by 10:00 am on Friday the week before being heard. (Previously 11:59 pm)
- RSO's cannot request their full allottment in one Budget Request unless using the full eligible allotment for one event. Only one Budget Request can be submitted per event (exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis)
- off-campus events with selective attendance will need to demonstrate how attendance was fairly selected (Demonstrations from Microsoft Forms, Google Forms, or Group Me Forms will be the only format accepted)
- UFB Cannot fund competitions in any capacity. All organizations that anticipate participating in competitions must be registered as a Competitive Organization with the Center for Student Involvement office and work within the allocation system set for competitive organizations
- UFB can hear Budget Requests for subscriptions if 1.) there is a clear cancellation policy, 2.) the RSO does not utilize an auto-renew option, and 3.) the subscription aligns with the mission of the RSO. Our Financial Administrator will need access to the subscription login information to cancel subscriptions at any time. This information can be submitted with your Purchase Request. RSO's will be required to reimburse Center for Student Involvement for any recurring charges past the approved budget
- UFB cannot provide funding support for events supporting non-UC affiliated attendees (i.e. family members/partners of UC students)
- Communication other than email correspondence will not be accepted for documentation (i.e. text messages)
- All attendees requesting funding for conference travel requiring flights must have all flight amounts paid in full by UFB or another funding source not required of student's personal finances
- All Essential Investment Requests must be submitted on one Essential Investment Form unless they are stored in a different location
- All RSO's serving as a host for a co-sponsored event must be listed as a host on the event's GetInvolved page
- All Budget Requests seeking payment for a speaker/performer should include the speaker's legal first and last name, date of birth, and email address
- All approved budget funding not utilized 30 days after the event will be returned to the UFB Allocation Fund for further use. For Essential Investments, funding that is not utilized 30 days after the Budget Request has been approved will be returned to the UFB Allocation Fund for further use
- Budget Requests that have been withdrawn and re-submitted within the GetInvolved system will count as a new budget on the next timeline
Types of Funding
Each RSO eligible to receive UFB funds may request up to $5,000 each academic year for on-campus events, off-campus events, and essential investments. Additional requirements per type of request can be found in the UFB Handbook.
To access these funds, student organizations must submit a budget request through GetInvolvedUC at least 21 days prior to an event. UFB holds office hours in 830C Steger Student Life Center to assist organizations in building their budgets. The How to Submit A Budget Request Guide is a great resource when requesting these funds.
Once a budget is approved by UFB, organizations must submit purchase requests (per vendor) to access the approved funds.
Each RSO eligible to receive UFB funds may request up to $500* each academic year for operating expenses. A Purchase Request can be submitted to access these funds from the first day of the fall semester until May 15. Your advisor must approve each expense. Advisors can find information on how to review these requests in our Advisor Approval document.
Operating funds are intended to be used for the general management of the organization at their discretion. Funds can be used to help purchase any supplies or other materials that a student organization may need to hold a productive meeting or event. Acceptable uses of operating funds can be found in the UFB Handbook.
To access operating funds, organizations must submit a purchase request through GetInvolvedUC. The How to Submit A Purchase Request Guide is a great resource when requesting these funds.
