Become a Peer Leader/Facilitator

Peer Leaders (PLs) and Peer Facilitators (PFs) independently lead a class of first-year students once or twice per week to support their successful transition to college. PLs and PFs prepare lesson plans, lead class sessions, and mentor their students outside of class. Lesson plan topics vary and may support academic strategies, personal wellness, campus involvement, professional development, and community engagement. Training is provided to support PL/PFs’ development of public speaking, lesson planning, and mentorship skills. PFs also work with an Instructor Partner who leads class once per week (only in CECH).

PLs and PFs attend weekly staff meetings, track student attendance, hold weekly office hours, and develop lesson plans to meet the needs of their students. They must have experience and the academic background needed to address the academic needs and interests of their students. During the Fall semester, Learning Community PLs and PFs are needed for the following colleges: A&S, CAHS, CCM, CEAS, CECH, and COM. During the Spring semester, Learning Community PLs are needed for the following colleges: A&S, CAHS, and COM.
