About Us

Purpose, Vision & Values

Our Purpose:

The Center for Community Engagement’s Off-Campus & Commuter Student Engagement team fosters a sense of belonging, support, and connection for students living off-campus or commuting to campus. We are designed to create opportunities for meaningful engagement, provide resources and advocacy that address unique needs and experiences, and strengthen relationships between students, the university, and the surrounding community.

Our Vision:

We envision a campus environment where every off-campus and commuter student feels a true sense of belonging and support, and is empowered and equipped to thrive academically, socially, and personally.

Our Values:

We are Good Neighbors. We work to ensure that off-campus and commuting students are equipped to Be A Good Neighbor, representing the Bearcat community beyond campus. We focus on these values:

  • Community Voice: Engagement defined by mutual problem solving and informed by community experience
  • Measurable Impact: Engagement is tracked and assessed for impact through evaluation and analysis
  • Innovation: Engagement makes use of UC’s scholarship, research, personnel, and network to develop transformational approaches to complex issues
  • Belonging: Engagement creates, for UC and partner communities, a sense of belonging and community, characterized by leadership, civic duty, and empowerment
  • Relational: Engagement is designed to produce long-lasting relationships that sustain long-term impact and change
  • Reciprocity: Engagement intentionally designed to be collaborative and mutually beneficial, forming a partnership with those involved to provide growth and strengthening outcomes
