Gender Inclusive Housing

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to define the manner in which University Housing will go to help transgender and/or gender non-conforming students obtain suitable, safe housing that is keeping with their gender identity/expression.

Background

Transgender and/or gender non-conforming students are valued members of the university housing residential community at the University of Cincinnati.

In meeting the needs of the student, University Housing staff will recognize and respect the gender identity the student has established with the university. Staff will not ask for any more information than required to meet the student’s housing needs. All disclosed information will be kept strictly confidential.

Any student who indicates interest in residing in Gender-Inclusive Housing will be contacted about next steps. University Housing will work with the student to find a residence hall space best meets their gender expression, gender identity, comfort in transition and bathroom needs.

Next Steps

Students who require gender-inclusive housing should indicate the need while completing the housing application in the portal. Students will be contacted about next steps for assignment. Incoming first-year students will be contacted during the summer.

Room rates will be consistent with our other undergraduate population living in the residence hall communities.

For any questions related to gender-inclusive housing, please contact Dr. Mika Karikari, Associate Director of Resident Education & Development.
