Spirit Requirements for Winds

In score order:

• Piccolo
  • The UC Band doesn't march flutes.
• B-flat Soprano Clarinet
  • All auditions use Clarinet 1 music. Later, part assignments are made based on the audition.
• Alto Saxophone
  • This is primary and preferred saxophone in our instrumentation. For balance, the most altos are needed.
  • All auditions use Alto Sax 1 music. Later, part assignments are made based on the audition.
• Tenor Saxophone
  
  • Limited spots.
• Trumpet
  • All auditions use Trumpet 1 music. Later, part assignments are made based on the audition.
• Mellophone
  • All auditions use Horn 1 music. Later, part assignments are made based on the audition.
• Trombone (Tenor)
  • All auditions use Trombone 1 music. Later, part assignments are made based on the audition.
  • If a member owns a bass trombone and is interested in marching it, this can be discussed at a later date.
• Baritone (BC)
  • All baritone players in the UC Band are expected to play from bass clef music (or to learn how).
• Sousaphone (Tuba)

Submit a video performing the music linked below. There are specific instructions for the rhythm patterns on the part.

• A full-range chromatic scale, played stationary
• Three required selections linked below:
  • Required selection #1: the UC fight song, Cheer Cincinnati, played stationary (camera view: centered on instrument/face)
  • Required selection #2: the UC Alma Mater, played stationary (camera view: centered on instrument/face)
  • Required selection #3: the rhythm patterns, played while marching (camera view: full body from the side, preferably on a football field or other open space)

Email a shareable link (cloud-based such as YouTube, Dropbox, or Google Drive) to Mr. Christopher Nichter, Band Director with a message introducing yourself, describing your band experience, and including your UC M number -or- if you are attending a SOCHE school, how far along you are in the cross registration process.

The priority deadline for video prescreen submissions is Friday, June 18, 2027. If you miss this date, please email for assistance as there may still be opportunities to join.

If your video prescreen is successful, you will be notified by return email and attend a live audition day at the UC Main Campus. If you are on summer tour with a World Class DCI ensemble, you will be exempted from this step.

Your options are to select one of the following Mondays for your live audition:

• July 12, 2027
• July 19, 2027

If your live audition is also successful, you will be notified that day and then attend preseason camp according to the dates provided below.
