CCM Alumni Honored at the 2009 Tony Awards

Karen Olivo and Matt Kraus join the elite roster of artists to receive one of the theater industry's highest honors.

UC ingot   Two CCM alumni saw their work honored at the 2009 Tony Awards, held on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at New York's Radio City Music Hall and broadcast nationally on CBS.

* Karen Olivo (CCM Musical Theater) clinched a Tony for "Best Performance by a Featured Actress" in the Broadway revival of West Side Story. This new take on the the landmark musical featured Olivo in the role of Anita.

* Matt Kraus (CCM '01 Theater Design & Production) was part of the design team for Liza's at The Palace...!, the 2009 Tony winner for "Best Special Theatrical Event" and starring Broadway legend Liza Minnelli. Kraus served as sound designer for this dance-filled tribute to the late-1940s nightclub act of Minnelli’s godmother, Kay Thompson.
