UC Class of 2010 by the Numbers

The University of Cincinnati celebrates All-University Commencement during two ceremonies on Saturday, June 12, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena. The Doctoral Hooding and Master’s Recognition Program gets underway at 10 a.m., Friday, June 11, in Fifth Third Arena.

UC’s Office of Institutional Research reports that 4,660 students applied for graduation, earning

  • 498 associate degrees
  • 2,585 baccalaureate degrees
  • 1,111 master degrees
  • 534 doctoral or professional degrees
  • Total number of degrees (some students earn more than one degree) – 4,728

280 degrees will be awarded cum laude (representing a grade-point-average between 3.60 and 3.7499)
224 degrees will be awarded magna cum laude (GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999)
109 degrees will be awarded summa cum laude (GPA between 3.9 and 4.0)

The average age of the spring graduate is 26. There will be eight UC graduates celebrating birthdays on June 12. The age of the youngest graduate, earning an associate’s degree, is 19. UC’s oldest graduate, at 65, is a distance-learner who lives in Lakeland, Fla. Linda Horton is achieving her master's degree for women's health practitioner from UC’s top nationally-ranked College of Nursing. She sits on the Florida State Board of Nursing and also has two doctorates and a master's degree in nursing administration.

Number of women earning degrees: 2,630 (56.4 percent)
Number of men earning degrees: 2,030 (43.6 percent)

12.7 percent of the graduates reflect a minority group. 7.8 percent of the graduates are African-American.

The graduates represent 64 countries and 46 states.
