The UC/ Salahaddin University-Hawler three-year partnership aims to accomplish several goals.

Partnership Goals

1. Increased Proficiency in English – Building fluency in English – teaching lessons and building courses in English. This will be supported through intensive summer workshops, monthly videoconferencing and through UC’s BlackBoard online learning communities.

2. Building Faculty Expertise – Providing Iraqi faculty with the latest developments in their field, including purchasing textbooks, establishing memberships in professional societies and reviewing and redesigning courses. The UC College of Business will provide support for Salahaddin University to establish a new academic department of banking and finance, as Salahaddin University works to build 21st century leaders in rebuilding Iraq’s economy.

3. Building Excellence in Teaching – UC education faculty will share strategies to ensure learning for every student. These education strategies for the 21st century include building critical thinking, Internet literacy as well as e-learning capabilities and problem-based and project-based learning.

4. Increase Faculty Research Talent – Ensuring that Iraqi faculty are knowledgeable and conversant in the latest research involving their field. This will involve participating in online research communities, seminars and workshops as well as participating in international conferences and on research proposals and grants with UC partners.

5. Utilizing Learning and Online Teaching Methods – Building access to Internet resources; building confidence in utilizing e-learning; building coursework geared toward online learning.

6. Advancing International Exchange Opportunities – For both Iraqi and UC faculty and students.

7. Establishing a Hawler Community Career Center – Working with the UC College of Business to determine the community’s issues and needs as well as looking ahead to the region’s future plans for development.
