University of Cincinnati Has Second Record-Breaking Blood Drive

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati reports that its All-Campus Winter Blood Drive was once again a record-breaking success, registering 1,613 donors. This is the largest mobile blood drive held in the 75-year history of Hoxworth Blood Center. All donors received the official “COLLEGE” sweatshirt.

The blood drive registered 1,613 individuals and collected 1,243 lifesaving blood products, enough to save more than 3,729 lives in the Tristate. The drive also recruited 439 first-time donors, reports Alecia Lipton, community relations manager for Hoxworth Blood Center.

The All-Campus Fall Blood Drive was the first record-breaking drive for the University, with 1,513 registered donors.

“The recent inclement weather has negatively impacted blood collection,” states Ronald Sacher, director of Hoxworth Blood Center.  “The record-breaking success at the University of Cincinnati ensured that we had enough blood products for patients in our area hospitals.  We are very grateful for the generosity of the students, faculty, staff and President Santa Ono for their participation and support of our mission to save lives through blood donation.”

Mark your calendar for the next all-campus blood drive to be held April 7-11 on the UC campus.

The blood drive is co-sponsored by the University of Cincinnati Bookstore. For more information and news about upcoming blood drives, go to http://hoxworth.org/groups/uc.
