Wanted: Applicants for AmeriCorps Health Care/Education Opportunity

The University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Nursing and College of Medicine are looking for applicants passionate about partnering with high school students to positively impact the health of the community. The colleges, in partnership with Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) are seeking AmeriCorps members to serve as Health Professions Affinity Community (HPAC) Specialists for the 2016-2017 academic year. Recent or soon-to-be college graduates, not only in health care fields but also areas such as education and public health, looking for a yearlong, full-time opportunity are encouraged to apply.

Successful applicants will share their leadership skills and passion for health care with children and young adults in Greater Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio to help drive impactful change in the overall health of their communities. AmeriCorps members will manage and/or create HPAC programs with designated urban and rural schools, implementing health career fairs, summer camps, college readiness/bridge programs and health profession coaching programs through educational pipeline projects. 

Full-time AmeriCorps members receive an education award of up to $12,530 a year after 1,700 hours of service annually along with a Segal Education Award of $5,730 annually toward educational expenses or student loans.  They will have an opportunity to earn a community health worker certification and a chance to make a difference in the community.
