Current Faculty or Emeriti: Apply to Serve as Provost Fellow, Emeriti Center Executive Director

The Office of the Provost is now accepting applications for a Provost Fellow to serve as executive director of the Emeriti Center. The Provost Fellow will be responsible for enhancing academic engagement of University of Cincinnati Emeriti in support of the university’s Strategic Direction.

 

Additionally, the Provost Fellow will be responsible for working with the Emeriti Board to manage programs and develop strategies to assess engagement impacts and build connections between the Emeriti Center and UC faculty.

 

 

Goals of the Provost Fellow, Executive Director of the Emeriti Center position are:

 

  1. To integrate Emeriti activities into supporting the university's Strategic Direction.
  2. Report at monthly meetings of the Emeriti Board, and work closely with board members and the president of the Emeriti Association.
  3. Maintain and improve communications with Emeriti including creating and distributing Emeriti newsletters, maintaining the Emeriti database and updating the Emeriti website.
  4. Work closely with the Emeriti Board president and committee chairs to carry out responsibilities of the Board, and implement the goals and vision statement of the Emeriti Association.
  5. Collaborate with college deans to increase interactions and activities with Emeriti, including activities relevant to facilitating faculty retirement. 
  6. Work with the Emeriti Board president and treasurer to manage the annual budget.
  7. Conduct periodic surveys of Emeriti and respond to their concerns.

 

The Provost Fellow will also work with the UC Foundation to cultivate donations from Emeriti, develop ongoing relationships with Emeriti colleges around the country, as well as promote and increase monthly on-campus presentations for Emeriti and active faculty.

 

Applicants must be either a current faculty member or UC Emeritus/Emerita, understand the diversity of faculty among UC's colleges, as well as the value of facilitating faculty retirements. Strong candidates will have good communications skills, experience leading and working with groups, and a strong professional reputation as a respected UC faculty member.

Ancient Maya blessed their ballcourts

Using environmental DNA analysis, researchers identified a collection of plants used in ceremonial rituals in the ancient Maya city of Yaxnohcah. The plants, known for their religious associations and medicinal properties, were discovered beneath a plaza floor upon which a ballcourt was built, suggesting the building might have been blessed or consecrated during construction.
