UC to Award Three Honorary Doctorates and Two Awards for Excellence

The Honorary Doctoral Degree is the highest award to be bestowed by the University of Cincinnati. The honor recognizes individuals for their ideals and outstanding achievements. The University of Cincinnati Award for Excellence recognizes those who have increased the stature of the university.

Three people will receive honorary doctorates at the June 8-9 University of Cincinnati Commencement Ceremonies in Fifth Third Arena, and two individuals will be honored with the Award for Excellence.

UC’s three honorary doctorates will be awarded to:

Nick Clooney,

journalist, radio/TV personality, activist and humanitarian, is also the Commencement speaker. Clooney will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the 9 a.m. ceremony on Saturday, June 9.

Thane Maynard,

executive director of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science during the 2 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, June 9.

Robert L. Woodson, Sr.,

founder and president of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the 9 a.m. ceremony on Saturday, June 9.

The Award for Excellence will be presented to:

Dianne Dunkelman

, founder and CEO of the national Speaking of Women’s Health Foundation and founder of the Clever Crazes for Kids health outreach program, will be honored during the 2 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, June 9.

Andrew Filak Jr., MD,

senior associate dean for academic affairs at the UC College of Medicine and vice president for medical education for UC Health and associate chief of staff at UC Health University Hospital, will be honored during the 9 a.m. ceremony on Saturday, June 9.
