2024 Title IX Regulations

4/19/2024

Dear UC Family,

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in the university’s programs and activities. Sex-based harassment, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking are forms of discrimination prohibited by Title IX.

On April 19, 2024, the U.S. Department of Education released the Final Rule amending Title IX. The Final Rule specifies how recipients of Federal financial assistance covered by Title IX – including postsecondary institutions – must respond to allegations of sex-based discrimination. The new regulations will take effect on August 1, 2024.

We will convene a Title IX Task Force to carefully assess and analyze the Final Rule to determine appropriate and necessary next steps to ensure our continued compliance with Title IX in addressing incidents of sex-based discrimination in our programs and activities.

The University of Cincinnati is committed to providing a living, learning, and working environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. The Office of Equal Opportunity (“OEO”) coordinates the university’s comprehensive response to incidents of sex-based discrimination. Individuals can make a report and/or seek consultation related to Title IX by email, phone, online, or in person.
