Anna Guan

Anna Guan is a graduate student at the UC College of Medicine’s Special Master’s Program in Physiology. Prior to her studies at UC, she attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), graduating with a BS in Biology in 2018.

From 2019 to 2020, Anna completed her Peace Corps service in Senegal, West Africa. As a Community Health volunteer in a rural village, her work focused on using digitized health data from the local clinic to inform community health projects in Maternal and Childhood Health. With the help of local partners, she began a Family Health Group for Fathers and Young Men and assisted the local Community Health Workers in post-partum nutrition and sanitation education. Her service was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Upon returning from Senegal, Anna became a Medical Assistant at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest in San Diego, CA. She is triple-certified to consult patients in Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin. Inspired by her experience working in border city healthcare, her proposed Fulbright project will study the demands of reproductive healthcare providers in Tijuana, Mexico.

After her Master’s Program, Anna hopes to matriculate into an MD/MPH program, with a focus on community and global health.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and learning languages. She currently speaks English, Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Wolof.
