Jay Patel
Jay Patel is a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Medical Sciences and Liberal Arts with concentrations in Spanish and Public Health. He is the founder and president of the Dahyabhai Foundation, a global non-profit organization aimed at uplifting underprivileged communities in rural India. He is also a part of the University Honors program and the Portman Fellows program.
Jay conducts Molecular Biology Research at the Vontz Center in the Cunningham Lab where he studies a particular enzyme involved in cancer growth. He also volunteers his time with Refuge UC, an organization that mentors first-generation refugee students in high school, and Remote Area Medical where he serves as a volunteer coordinator to set up trips to various free health clinics throughout the country.
Jay is passionate about global health and international policy and plans to attend medical school after graduation. Upon completion of medical school, Jay plans to work in International development through various NGOs.
