Scholar Spotlight: Kimberly Washington
Kimberly Washington is a Biological Sciences and Chemistry major at the University of Cincinnati, with certificates in Minority Health and Pre-Medicine. As a first-generation college student, she is passionate about addressing health disparities and plans to pursue a Master of Public Health.
Kimmy is a proud Darwin T. Turner Scholar and a member of the University Honors Program. She serves as a Resident Advisor and Desk Assistant, where she is committed to building inclusive, supportive communities for students. Academically, she has worked as a Genetics Learning Assistant and a microbiology lab Assistant Teaching Assistant.
Her academic and professional interests center on health disparities, particularly how structural inequities influence outcomes in underserved populations. She is interested in the intersection of public health, policy, and global health systems, and hopes to contribute to more equitable prevention strategies and responses to public health crises.
Outside of her academic and professional work, Kimmy enjoys reading, listening to music, watching sitcoms and reality tv, exploring new places, and spending time with friends and family.
In spring 2027, she will study abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where she will study in the Korean Language Institute Program. This experience builds on her commitment to public service and aligns with her broader goal of working at the intersection of public health and policy. She hopes to develop a deeper understanding of cross-cultural healthcare systems and apply these insights toward advancing equitable health outcomes both in the United States and globally.
