Ria Parikh

Ria Parikh is a 4th year Neuroscience and English major, with minors in Psychology and Medical Sciences and a certificate in Medical Humanities. In addition, she is a Cincinnatus Scholar and a member of the University Honors Program. Through her stress neurobiology research in the James Herman Laboratory, she has developed an interest in studying the underlying mechanisms of depression and other stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders.

Outside of research, some of Ria’s passions are creative writing and social justice. She serves as co-President of United Asian Advocates at UC, and was a co-found of the intercollegiate health and human rights magazine, Health Righters. In her career, Ria aims to integrate her work in neuroscience research and social justice to help destigmatize neuropsychiatric disorders in the Asian community. She also aims to make science and research accessible through continued participation in neuroscience outreach and science communication initiatives.

In the past, Ria has participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (SURF-N) at UC and received the UC NeuroSTEM research fellowship. She has also published an essay in the online journal Queen City Writers
