Jewish consultant for 'Transparent' to speak at UC
Rabbi Susan Goldberg consults for the Emmy-award-winning Amazon show. She was invited to UC as part of Judaic Studies' Lichter Series
Rabbi Susan Goldberg will present a lecture titled “In the Wilderness: The Spiritual Journey of Transparent,” on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Mayerson Jewish Community Center.
Goldberg has served as rabbi at Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles since 2013 and strives to renew the Jewish culture in Los Angeles.
In 2014, she became the rabbinic consultant for the hit Amazon television series “Transparent,” where she advised the producers on a pillar of the show: Jewish culture. Known for her workshops with national organizations, Goldberg demonstrates her dedication to social justice by facilitating cross-cultural dialogue. Her lecture is part of the ongoing Lichter Lecture Series called “Envisioning Jewish Man: Past Present and Future." She will discuss her involvement in "Transparent,” from costume consulting to presenting integral Jewish themes.
The Lichter Lecture Series is made possible by the Jacob and Jennie L. Lichter Fund of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. It is also supported by the Mayerson Jewish Community Center, the University of Cincinnati’s Taft Research Center, and the UC departments of history, sociology and women’s, gender and sexuality studies. Free parking will be provided to all attendees at the Mayerson Jewish Community Center.
