WCPO: Local doctor helps design app to help Black community fight COVID-19
UC cardiologist collaborates with researchers in St. Louis and Georgia
Donald Lynch, MD, assistant professor in the UC Division of Cardiovascular Health and Disease, is developing a smartphone app designed to provide better information and education that will reach African-American communities which are disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lynch, also a UC Health cardiologist, spoke with WCPO for a segment as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase. As of Nov. 15, there were 298,096 cases of COVID-19 in Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Health. Black residents make up 14 percent of Ohio’s population but accounted for 23 percent or 5,205 of the 22,265 hospitalizations stemming from COVID-19.
