UC Blue Ash student receives national scholarship
Shelby Schepis
UC Blue Ash College student Shelby Schepis will have some help in completing her bachelor’s degree thanks to a $2,500 scholarship from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT).
Schepis, who lives in Columbus, Ohio, is studying radiation science technology in the online bachelor’s degree program provided through UC Blue Ash. The ASRT is a national organization that works to advance the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession. It offers a Professional Advancement Scholarship to a select few members who are advancing their education.
“When I learned that I had been selected to receive this scholarship, I was shocked,” said Schepis. “ASRT has many members in the society and even though I had applied for it, I never imagined that I would be awarded the scholarship.”
Schepis works as a radiologic technologist while going to school. She said the financial support means she can speed up the process of earning her degree.
“I have been finishing my degree one class per semester due to monetary constraints, so applying for this scholarship potentially meant that I could take more classes in a semester and graduate in spring 2023.”
Radiologic technologists are medical professionals who perform diagnostic imaging examinations, such as x-rays or MRIs, and administer radiation therapy treatments. Schepis says she is pursuing her bachelor’s degree with plans to eventually get her master’s and become an instructor. She says that was one of the aspects that drew her to the BRST program at UC Blue Ash.
“This program seemed to be the one that had the most offerings for career advancement,” Schepis said. “Between education, administration and multiple modalities, this program teaches radiologic technologists how to develop in the field and encourages career growth. I really look forward to educating the future generation of radiologic technologists.”
Matthieu Henry of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Jonathan Broom of Galloway, Ohio are also students in the BRST online program and have been selected as recipients of statewide scholarships for 2022-23 from the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists’ Education and Research Foundation.
More information about the BRST program is available online.
