Local 12 discusses support for nursing students with UC College of Nursing Dean Alicia Ribar
May is National Nurses Month, a time to recognize the crucial support nurses provide in the field of healthcare.
UC College of Nursing and UC Health have teamed up with Morning Rounds Coffee to further the work of local nurses. By purchasing “Cincy Grinds” coffee, part of the proceeds will go to scholarships for nursing students.
Alicia Ribar, PhD, dean of the UC College of Nursing, highlighted the college's efforts to address the nursing workforce shortage during a segment on Local 12 News.
"The College of Nursing increased enrollment this year in anticipation of that workforce shortage,” Ribar told Local 12. “So, in the fall of 2025, our college will be inviting about 125 more nurses to join our undergraduate class. So, we're very excited about that, the biggest class we've ever had.”
A bag of “Cincy Grinds” is available online or at one of the gift shops on the UC Health campus, explains Jen Jackson, chief nursing officer of UC Health's West Chester Hospital.
"When they purchase a bag, a portion of the proceeds goes back to the College of Nursing through scholarship funds,” Jackson told Local 12 for a segment. “So, we're able to really support the next generation of healthcare workers, and this organization was created by healthcare workers to give back to healthcare providers."
The UC College of Nursing’s programs are ranked among the best by U.S. News & World Report.
