Alumni Association Seeks Nominees For Its Highest Honor, The Taft Medal
The University of Cincinnatis William Howard Taft Medal for Notable Achievement has been the most prestigious award given by the UC Alumni Association for almost a century. Past recipients of the medal include tennis star Tony Trabert; internationally acclaimed architect Michael Graves; medical researcher George Rieveschl, inventor of the first effective antihistamine; and the most recent recipient, Oscar Robertson, basketball legend and successful businessman.
The UC Alumni Association is currently seeking nominations for the Taft Medal. The medal is bestowed upon an alumnus for notable achievement in his or her field of endeavor.
The university also seeks nominations for three other awards: the Alumni Distinguished Service Award goes to an alumnus who has rendered outstanding service to the university while the Jeffrey Hurwitz Outstanding Achievement Award goes to a recent graduate (35 years old or younger) who has demonstrated significant professional achievement while continuing to serve both campus and community. The fourth award is the Faculty Member of the Year Award, which recognizes outstanding contribution by a faculty member in one or more of the following areas: participation in alumni activities, support of the mission of the UC Alumni Association, service to the community or service to the University community.
Deadline to nominate an individual for any of the four awards is February 1, 2005, according to Phillip Lanham, program manager of the UC Alumni Association. All four awards will be presented at the annual UC Day Banquet on April 14, 2005, at an on-campus location to be determined.
To nominate a UC graduate, send a letter and supporting information to: Alumni Awards Committee, UC Alumni Association, PO Box 210024, Cincinnati, OH 45221-0024. For more information, call the association at 513-556-4344.
