2006 Faculty Awards: MeasureNet Earns Honor for Sprague, Vorhees
More than 100 installations in universities, community colleges and high schools attest to the potential of the MeasureNet hardware and software that the team of Estel Sprague, PhD, and Robert Voorhees created for use in student chemistry labs.
Their networked laboratory data system saves money by connecting 12 workstations in a 24-student lab to a single computer, rather than requiring 12. It also uses a web-based data storage system so that students can easily save and retrieve the results of their experiments.
Sprague and Voorhees invented MeasureNet in 1996 with funding from the National Science Foundation and Procter & Gamble. In 1998, they formed MeasureNet Technology Ltd. and obtained a licensing agreement with UC to market their invention commercially.

The Information Security Roadshow series aimed to equip the audience with knowledge on prevailing cyber threats, prevention strategies, how to report incidents and resources to stay informed and secure.
UC alum makes her mark in research, service

In 1960, as a young and eager statistician, Joan Reisch graduated from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences, and pursued a career in Texas at the Southwestern Medical Center where she’s held numerous roles as both faculty and staff. This year, Reisch was recognized for her career accomplishments and contributions with the Philanthropist of the Year Award by UC’s Alumni Association. This award is given to an alumnus who has been highly engaged in philanthropic activities with A&S, or has made a significant impact on the college.
