UC Information Technology Expo April 2

On Tuesday, April 2, the second annual Information Technology Expo will be held in the Great Hall of Tangeman University Center (TUC) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features two guest speakers, senior projects on display by undergraduate students in information technology (IT) and computer science (CS), as well as vendor booths.

Forty-seven student projects will be featured and judged throughout the day. Each project addresses an IT solution in one of four topic areas:

1) business productivity

2) educational and community services

3) personal productivity and wireless, and

4) gaming, cybersecurity and healthcare.

“The expo represents the breadth of knowledge covered in the IT program. Students select a problem, then design, develop and deploy the solution under mentorship from faculty,” says Hazem Said, department head of the Department of Information Technology in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.

The day-long expo also features two keynote speakers:

At 9:30 a.m., Kendra Ramirez will present “Social Media is a Culture.” Ramirez is a social media strategist and speaker for Ascendum Solutions.

At 1 p.m., Nelson Vincent, will speak on “IT @ UC: Possibility & Promise.” Vincent is the vice president for information technology and the chief information officer for University of Cincinnati Information Technologies (UCIT).

The event runs from 9a m. to 2 p.m., in the Great Hall of TUC, and is open to anyone interested in learning more about information technology.
