UC Blue Ash Adds New Position to Serve Military Veterans

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College is expanding its services and outreach to veterans who are interested in starting or continuing their pursuit of a college degree.

David Frese is the new coordinator of Veteran Student Affairs for UC Blue Ash. This is a new position that was created to assist the growing number of military veterans who are returning from service and going to college. “I help them navigate the admissions process and research whether their military training and experience can be converted into college credits,” said Frese, who also helps veterans apply for educational and medical benefits. He notes that the college credit options come as a surprise to many veterans.

Frese comes into this new role with plenty of experience. He was in the U.S. Army for 21 years before he retired in 2008. Since then he has served as the veterans/military personnel advisor for UC at its Uptown Campus.

As major military operations in areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan wind down and the economy continues to make a slow recovery, more veterans are going to college. At the University of Cincinnati campus near Clifton, the number of veterans/students who are using military benefits has tripled over the past five years to nearly 1,500. The same trend is occurring at UC Blue Ash and at colleges and universities across the U.S.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the services we provide to our students, we saw a real need to have an experienced and knowledgeable person dedicated to serving our military veterans on our campus,” said Marcus Langford, director of Student Life at UC Blue Ash College.
