WATCH: Student Center Celebrates Campus, Community and Continent

The University of Cincinnati’s African American Cultural and Resource Center (AACRC) will hold the program,

“Beyond the Wall: The Trailblazer Series,” from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, in the AACRC (60 West Charlton St. Building).

The event marks the center’s 22nd anniversary and will feature the Habari Gani Ambassadors, a distinct group of student leaders committed to carrying out the vision and purpose of the AACRC through advocacy and service.

The program, free and open to the public

, will highlight several trailblazers featured on a wall of history in the center’s new Harambee Room (Harambee is Swahili for “Let’s Pull Together”). The panel discussion will connect these trailblazers with current students to learn more about the history of the AACRC and its commitment to continuing student success.

The AACRC first opened on Sept. 24, 1991, to create a welcoming environment for African-American students as they adjust to college life.

The center recently underwent $325,000 in renovations that not only expanded the center, but also included the creation of the Harambee Room and its visual history of significant contributions that black students have made to the university, the community and the world.
