Bowties for Scholarships Contest Asks UC Students to Design for a Cause
Made in the USA? How about made by a University of Cincinnati student? A new contest is set to bring to life student bowtie and scarf designs all for a good cause.
The University of Cincinnati Foundation has partnered with UC President Santa Ono in a two-part campaign to raise funds for unmet student need. The initiative Bowties for Scholarships: Creating Possibilities challenges students to create and submit designs for bowties and scarves. Winning design(s) will then be brought to life and sold to benefit the cause.
About 80 percent of undergraduates have unmet financial needs, with Bowties for Scholarships we hope to make a dent in that number, said Rod Grabowski, UC Foundation president.
A panel of judges including President Ono will select the winning design(s), and winner(s) will each receive $500 gift cards to the UC Bookstore and will be invited to attend a celebrity luncheon in the fall.
Design entries will be accepted from March 24 through April 7 and can be submitted online at uc.edu/bowtie or dropped off at the UC Foundation located in University Hall. Winners will be announced April 18 and will be recognized at the celebrity luncheon, which will also kick off the merchandising aspect of the campaign.
Im looking forward to seeing what students come up with, said President Ono. I plan to wear the winning designs any chance I get and urge UC faculty, staff and fans to get behind this fun and worthy cause.
The winning design(s) will be available for purchase online and at select locations around campus. For more information, please visit uc.edu/bowtie.
