Tina Whalen Named Interim Dean of College of Allied Health Sciences

Tina Whalen, EdD, DPT, has been named interim dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Allied Health Sciences. Her appointment was announced by Provost Beverly Davenport, PhD, April 30 and will become effective July 1, 2014.

Whalen has been a member of UC's faculty since 1990 and currently serves as the college's associate dean for academic affairs, a position she has held since 2012. Previously, she had chaired the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences since 2006.

She holds a doctorate in higher education leadership from the Union Institute and University, a doctor of physical therapy degree from Chatham College, a master's degree in public administration from UC and is a licensed physical therapist with more than 20 years of clinical experience.

At UC, Whalen serves on a number of leadership committees, including the STEM-MD Executive Steering Committee, University Academic Affairs Committee, the Academic Health Center IPEC Steering Committee and the Professional Council of Best Practice for Experiential Learning Committee.

Currently, she leads four funded research efforts, including serving as the CAHS principal investigator on a $3 million grant for the Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program, "Enhancing the Success of Future Health Professionals through Synergistic Cross-Collegiate Programming."

She follows Dean Elizabeth King, PhD, who has served as the first full dean of the college since June 2002. King will retire from the college effective July 1, 2014.
