UC Hosts the 2014 Cincinnati Symposium on Probability Theory and Applications Sept. 19 to 21
Researchers and students from around the country will gather in Cincinnati next month for the 2014 Cincinnati Symposium on Probability Theory and Applications, hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
This years symposium focuses on current research in limit theorems for dependent structures. Dependent structures are ubiquitous in physical applications, yet present many mathematical challenges. The symposium will provide a platform to showcase recent developments and stimulate new cross-disciplinary investigations and collaborations.
In order to stimulate new ideas and assist with the professional development of young probabilists, the symposium will emphasize the participation of graduate students and recent Ph.D. recipients. Besides invited talks by senior researchers, there will be ample opportunities for young investigators to present their research in shorter talks and at a poster forum.
The symposium will bring together experts and junior researchers to facilitate interactions and potential collaborations as well encourage the infusion of new ideas across probability and related fields.

In 1960, as a young and eager statistician, Joan Reisch graduated from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences, and pursued a career in Texas at the Southwestern Medical Center where she’s held numerous roles as both faculty and staff. This year, Reisch was recognized for her career accomplishments and contributions with the Philanthropist of the Year Award by UC’s Alumni Association. This award is given to an alumnus who has been highly engaged in philanthropic activities with A&S, or has made a significant impact on the college.
