Mahoney Named Permanent Chair of UC's Department of Radiology
Mary Mahoney, MD, has been appointed chair of the Department of Radiology, effective Tuesday, Feb. 2. Mahoney's appointment as chair and Ben Felson Endowed Chair of Radiology was approved by the UC Board of Trustees. She also will serve as Chief of Imaging Services at UC Health.
Mahoney has served as interim chair since August 2014 as well as being a professor in the department and the Eugene L. and Sue R. Saenger Chair of Radiological Services. She joined the UC faculty in 1989 after completing her medical training at the UC College of Medicine and residencies and fellowship at UC Medical Center.
"I'm honored and eager to continue in this leadership role," says Mahoney. "My goals are to strengthen the already impressive educational, research and clinical missions within the department while supporting my faculty and relationships with colleagues to support multidisciplinary possibilities within the college and the university at large."
A board-certified radiologist at UC Health, Mahoney is also the director for the Breast Imaging Fellowship at UC Medical Center. She belongs to a number of professional organizations including the Alpha Omega Alpha Society, the American College of Radiology and the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments, among others. She is also on the Board of Governors for the American Board of Radiology and is on the Board of Directors for the Radiological Society of North America.
She participates in the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women, and as vice chair of research for the department, she has been the institutional principal investigator for many research initiatives that focus on imaging within the college. Mahoney has also been instrumental in building the multidisciplinary breast center within the UC Cancer Institute.
