Kettering Lab Complex Reopened

The Kettering Lab Complex reopened today (Friday, Jan. 10, 2014) after closing earlier this week as a result of an accidental sprinkler system activation that affected electrical equipment and forced a shutdown of power to the Mid-Wing and North Wing.

Access to the Mid-Wing and possibly parts of the North Wing would remain restricted, Public Safety said, as restoration work continued.

Kettering Lab is home to the Department of Environmental Health.

Shuk-Mei Ho, PhD,  Jacob G. Schmidlapp Chair of Environmental Health, said the complex's atrium, recently converted to work space, was being used as a "rescue area" for paper and electronic equipment. Papers were spread out to dry in the area as Ho led an Academic Health Center public information officer on a impromptu tour of the building this morning.

Ho said the water damage occurred when ice thawed Wednesday, triggering the building's sprinkler system.
