Research shows UC screening program contributes to increase in...

Newly published research shows that a screening program in the University of Cincinnati Medical Center Emergency Department helped detect an outbreak of HIV among persons who inject drugs in Hamilton County, Ohio, from 2014-18. The study was published in PLOS One in May 2021. The researchers would like to see this study have an impact on public health policy as well as the frequency of HIV screening in emergency departments across the country.

In this excerpt from the CCM Musical Theatre Class of 2024 Freshman Showcase, students Amanda Bishop, Andrew Burke, Gracie Parker and Stanislav Przedlacki perform Stephen Sondheim's "No One Is Alone" from the musical Into the Woods at Memorial Hall OTR. Segments of CCM's Musical Theatre Freshman Showcase were recorded at iconic locations throughout the city in collaboration with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, Imperial Theatre Mohawk Arts Center, Memorial Hall, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Washington Park. The full showcase will be available for on-demand viewing beginning Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

CCM doctoral student selected for the Cleveland Institute of...

Current CCM doctoral student Kabelo Chirwa has been selected for the inaugural cohort of the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Future of Music Faculty Fellowship Program. Designed as a critical step forward in creating a culture of diversity within the music academy and beyond, the program is board by a grant awarded in the inaugural cycle of the Sphinx Venture Fund. The career development initiative will engage 35 Black and Latinx music professionals who are pursuing or considering academic careers, preparing them with the skills, insights and networks to flourish professionally and influence generations of musicians.

A journalist for Ohio Capital Journal quoted Susan Pinney, PhD, professor in the UC Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences, about the dangers of PFAS chemicals. They have been linked to health problems including cancer, kidney damage, thyroid difficulties and changes in reproductive hormones that disrupt puberty for girls.
