CCM pianist awarded second prize in performance competition

June 15, 2021

Current CCM doctoral pianist Jiao Sun took home the second prize and $5,000 from the Washington International Piano Competition in early June. Sun, who attended Eastman before moving to Cincinnati for her Artist Diploma and doctorate, studies with CCM Associate Professor of Piano Soyeon Kate Lee. For her performance, Sun prepared a a full recital program of works by Brahms, Vine, Haydn, Prokofiev and Bach.

‘Filmatick’ makes TV, film impact with UC’s help

University of Cincinnati's Venture Lab helps successfully launch the novel "Filmatick" TV, film pre-production program onto market. Mike Gasaway, former director of Nickelodeon's "Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" and creator of "Filmatick" is also making an impact as assistant professor of UC's Digital Media Collaborative program, sharing his expertise and program with more than 300 UC students.

Aerospace engineering student encourages women in her field

June 15, 2021

Rachel Wiggins, aerospace engineering doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, is testing a rotating detonation engine that is smaller and more efficient than existing combustion engine technology. Outside of her research work, Wiggins launched Women in Flight, a student organization that fosters a supportive environment for women in aerospace and aviation fields. She was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Maria Espinola, PsyD, a clinical psychologist at the University of Cincinnati, spoke with WVXU about a special event to boost COVID-19 vaccination rates among Latinos in Greater Cincinnati. The June 13 free vaccination event. runs from noon to 3 p.m. at Kellogg Soccer Field at 4609 Kellogg Avenue. It features food, salsa dancing, and music. Vaccines, both Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson are available, and offered to those 12 and older.
