UC students see rapid rise with their startup idea

Two University of Cincinnati students gave themselves just 30 minutes to come up with an idea for a startup business. Not only did they succeed, their idea has won multiple pitch competitions in the past year. Joe Kuncheria Panjikaran and Aniruddhan Ramesh are the founders of PhizzIO (pronounced “fizz-e-oh”), a startup that’s creating a business-to-business solution to improve physical therapy.

CCM announces 2024 Opera Scholarship Competition winners

Twenty-two current and incoming students competed for six full-tuition scholarships and $62,500 in additional awards during CCM's 2024 Opera Scholarship Competition. Since its inauguration in 1976, this annual competition welcomes current and incoming CCM voice students to compete for scholarships and cash prizes. A panel of judges composed of opera industry professionals selects each year’s class of prizewinners. Six students won awards in this year’s competition, which was conducted Saturday, March 9, 2024, in CCM’s Corbett Auditorium.

UC selects executive director to lead new Portman Center

UC has appointed Andrew Lewis, an associate professor in the department of political science, as the permanent executive director of the Portman Center for Policy Solutions. Officially opened on Oct. 23, 2023, the Portman Center for Policy Solutions is located in the School of Public and International Affairs in UC’s College of Arts and Sciences. Its mission is to encourage individuals, regardless of their political views, to find common ground and solve problems in the political sphere. “I think it is critically important to find a way forward for this country, the campus community, and the city of Cincinnati,” Lewis said. “We can demonstrate that real, important work can get done by people with different ideological outlooks.” Through academic programming, research, and seminars with political figures at the local, state, and federal levels, the center provides an educational platform for comprehensive civic discussions. It also offers student fellowships, scholarships, and internship opportunities to cultivate the next generation of leaders, enhancing their education and fostering the ability to engage in bipartisan conversations and decision-making.

Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program: A classroom behind bars

One day a week, UC students travel to correctional facilities in Ohio to learn about life behind bars and share thoughts with incarcerated individuals. It's called the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program and is offered through UC's School of Criminal Justice.

The University of Cincinnati has extended the Uptown campus fall 2024 confirmation deadline from May 1, 2024 to June 1, 2024 at 5 p.m. EST. This deadline extension is due to U.S. Department of Education processing delays that continue to impact Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information being provided to colleges and universities across the country.

Bearcats health app leverages AI to automate student...

At the beginning of the 2024 spring semester, the new Bearcats Health App was launched for all students at the University of Cincinnati. The app was developed as a database that could accurately assess the immunization status of students.
