UC Journalism Faculty Member Photos Featured in Local Exhibit

Journalism educator assistant professor Sean Hughes has four compelling photos featured in the Kennedy Heights Arts Center exhibit titled “Concerned” beginning Saturday, Oct. 5. 

McMicken College of Arts and Sciences adjunct photojournalism instructors Cameron Knight and Mark Lyons are also featured in the exhibit.

According to the Center’s website, “'Concerned’ presents work from local photographers which illuminates issues and concerns facing the disabled, disenfranchised and economically challenged persons living in our community, in America, and throughout the world today.” 

The exhibit, open to the public, runs from Oct. 5 to Nov.16. The opening reception is from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5.

The gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Growing up on Ludlow Ave. in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Clifton, Harrison Fowler had planned to enroll in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Cincinnati. UC was close to home, and ROTC seemed like the right choice. But life had other plans. At the last minute, Fowler withdrew from ROTC and enrolled to earn his bachelor’s in Spanish, which meant he needed a study-abroad experience to complete his degree. He was apprehensive, but completed his requirement in Madrid, in a move that would change the direction of his life. Says Fowler of his foreign-language major, and his experience abroad: “Speaking another language opens up a whole other world and relationships for you.”
