In the tropical paradise of Costa Rica, fourth year journalism and international affairs student Stephanie Rivera embarked on an unforgettable journey of self-discovery and cultural immersion. Leaving behind the familiar sights and sounds of Cincinnati, Rivera set out to study abroad for a transformative semester in this Central American country, rich with vibrant biodiversity and cultural heritage. The College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) at UC places great emphasis on encouraging study abroad and experiential learning opportunities for its students. Recognizing the transformative power of global experiences, the college supports a variety of study-abroad programs that enable students to enhance their academic pursuits while gaining valuable cultural and personal experiences.

Finding home away from home

Navigating life at university is difficult for any college student, but those common challenges are magnified for international students, who also contend with language barriers and cultural differences along the way. Two pairs of international student siblings at the University of Cincinnati—Hamza and Anas Khairy as well as Khwahish and Kartavya Singh—decided to pursue their degrees side by side.

UC students see rapid rise with their startup idea

March 14, 2024

Two University of Cincinnati students gave themselves just 30 minutes to come up with an idea for a startup business. Not only did they succeed, their idea has won multiple pitch competitions in the past year. Joe Kuncheria Panjikaran and Aniruddhan Ramesh are the founders of PhizzIO (pronounced “fizz-e-oh”), a startup that’s creating a business-to-business solution to improve physical therapy.

University of Cincinnati and Rwanda build capacity in cardiology

February 29, 2024

Rwanda faces a critical shortage of medical specialists. The University of Cincinnati's UC Rwanda Initiative has partnered with the country's ministry of health, the national University of Rwanda and the country’s teaching hospitals to develop cardiology fellowships through virtual courses and bidirectional exchange. The first two fellows visited UC for eight weeks.

Students can earn two degrees in one year in France and at UC

February 2, 2024

After spending five years as a Bearcat earning an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering technology, Will Mnich decided to continue at the University of Cincinnati to earn not one, but two additional degrees in the aerospace engineering field. Mnich is a student in the Aero-Systems Operations (AESOP) dual degree program.

Global students thriving at the University of Cincinnati

With a new class of 1,543 for fall 2023—just 4 students short of last fall’s record-smashing intake—the University of Cincinnati’s international enrollment has reached 4,899 students, or 9.6% of the student population. It’s the highest number in UC’s history, up 15% from last year, due in part to UC's strong support for international student success.
