Learn to brew your own immune-boosting kombucha Teas
Communiversity teams up with Skinny Piggy Kombucha this fall for tasty probiotic teas.
You have probably heard of kombucha tea before, but do you know what all the rave is about?
The fermented, sweet tea is great for the digestive system, as it's filled with yeast and bacterial probiotics as well as acids that help your body digest more effectively.
While kombucha aids digestion, it can also be an effective way to boost the immune system during cold and flu season and times of stress as well. This is because the digestive system is home to 80 percent of the immune system.
Come learn how to make your own zippy, tasty fermented teas teeming with probiotic goodness during Kombucha Brewing. The course will cover the most popular flavoring methods, and students will take home their own kombucha brew to keep the flavor going.
Kombucha Brewing takes places at Churchill’s Fine Teas Rookwood location on October 8 from 6-8 p.m. The course fee is $49.
“We hear from people all the time that they want to brew their own kombucha, but for whatever reason they're afraid,” said Katrina Sodaro, course instructor and CEO of Skinny Piggy Kombucha. “We're excited to demystify the process and bring the joy of fermentation into more homes.”
Sodaro said brewing kombucha is the ultimate way to experiment and get creative, as changing teas and other flavor components can change kombucha's structure on a whim.
“At Skinny Piggy Kombucha, we enjoy kombucha brewing because it allows a really cool window into the natural world,” she said. “This crazy symbiosis of yeast and bacteria work together to create a tasty beverage. During the process, you use your senses to monitor the changes in your brew, and you get to choose when it's done and ready for consumption.
“In the same way that growing a garden connects you with nature, brewing kombucha brings a natural process into your home and allows you the flexibility to be creative with your flavors. Not to mention, brewing it at home does save some serious pennies!”
