UC Blue Ash Dash 5K supports student scholarships
Run, walk or sleep-in to support local college students
Your participation in the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash Dash 5K Run/Walk for Scholarships could change the future for a bright and ambitious student.
The event is an official, chip-timed race that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8:30 a.m. on the UC Blue Ash College campus (9555 Plainfield Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236) and is open to everyone. The proceeds will go toward scholarships for deserving UC Blue Ash students.
Each year, the college awards more than 70 scholarships totaling at least $80,000. These financial awards can sometimes mean the difference between a student dropping out or staying in school and pursuing their college degree. About 75 percent of the students at UC Blue Ash work while going to school and nearly half are the first in their family to go to college. Financial challenges are the leading reason a student stops out or drops out of college.
Along with the financial support it provides, a scholarship also gives an emotional lift to a student, sending a message that others believe in them and want to help them reach their goals.
The UC Blue Ash Dash 5K is for runners and walkers of all levels, from competitive to recreational. There are a variety of categories with prizes for the running, walking, individual and team competitions. Participants can also choose to ‘Sleep in for Scholarships’ and still show their support without taking a step on the 5K course. Everyone who registers will receive a free ‘Dash’ t-shirt. Running Time will administer the race and the Q102 Soul Patrol will be on site with games and prizes. There will also be snacks and drinks for all participants following the event.
Registration fees for non-students are $30 in advance (including the ‘sleep in’ option) or $35 on the day of the race. The cost for all students (not just UC Blue Ash) is $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the race.

Putting preschool into perspective

Preschool and childcare can be difficult to navigate for parents, as Spectrum News 1 Ohio recently reported. Waitlists are long, and factors like cost, location and transportation can limit options. According to a recent study published by The Annie E. Casey Foundation, only 41% of 3- to 4-year-olds in Ohio were enrolled in preschool between 2020 and 2024 — a 4% decrease from pre-pandemic numbers. For University of Cincinnati early childhood education faculty member Chad Nunamaker, that statistic has caveats.
