UC Police promote four officers
On Nov. 9, the University of Cincinnati Police Division held a promotion ceremony for four members of the division, including the new assistant chief.
Capt. Dudley Smith, who has worked for UCPD for 17 years, was promoted to assistant police chief. He started at UCPD as a patrol officer in 2001. Throughout his time at the division, he has held the roles of field training officer, firearm’s instructor, lieutenant and captain.
Assistant Chief Smith began his current role on Oct. 1, 2018.
“I am pleased to appoint Dudley Smith as my selection for assistant chief,” said UC Police Chief Herold. “He has shown great dedication in his time at UCPD, and I am confident he will work hard to continually grow and improve the Police Division.”
Lt. David Hoffman, who has worked for UCPD for 10 years, was appointed to the rank of captain on Oct. 28, 2018, filling Assistant Chief Smith’s previous position. During his time at UCPD, Capt. Hoffman has worked as a patrol officer, community engagement officer and lieutenant.
As a lieutenant, Capt. Hoffman worked in the Training Section and the Community Affairs Section.
Sgt. Mark Zacharias was appointed to the rank of lieutenant on Nov. 4, 2018. He has been with UCPD since 2009, and has filled the roles of patrol officer, field training officer, firearms instructor and Taser instructor.
Lt. Zacharias was promoted to sergeant in March 2016, where his main role was to supervise patrol.
Officer Jason Reeme started at UCPD as a security officer in 1996, and became a UC police officer in 2002. He was appointed to the rank of sergeant on Sept. 12, 2018. As a patrol officer, Sgt. Reeme worked at both UC’s Uptown West Campus and Blue Ash Campus. He is also a member of the Hamilton County Police Association Honor Guard.
In addition, Sgt. Reeme served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves from December 1993 until August 1999. He was honorably discharged with the rank of E4 corporal.
“UC Public Safety is proud to promote four members of our department. Dudley Smith, David Hoffman, Mark Zacharias and Jason Reeme have all shown incredible dedication and commitment both to the University of Cincinnati and to UCPD,” said Public Safety Director James Whalen.
