Free UC Blue Ash presentation focuses on communicating with patients with autism disorders
The free presentation will be held in Muntz Hall on the UC Blue Ash campus from 12:30 - 2 p.m. on Feb. 21
The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College will host a free presentation designed to help health care providers communicate effectively with patients with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).
The event will be held from 12:30 - 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, in Muntz Hall, Room 170, on the UC Blue Ash College campus. It is sponsored by the UC Blue Ash Allied Health Department Diversity Awareness Committee.
Jerry Tyree, program director for the Columbus State Community College School of Radiologic Technology, will lead the presentation "Communicating with Patients with Autism Spectrum Disorders." Tyree brings a personal knowledge of individuals with ASDs through his experience of raising his son.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), ASDs are a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. They affect each person in different ways, and can range from mild to severe.
The purpose of the presentation will be help participants understand ASDs, identify the challenges or difficulties a hospital environment could create, and know the importance of how to ask questions and gather information from a patient with an ASD.
