UC police chief honored with innovation award

University of Cincinnati Police Chief Maris Herold recently received an award from the Hamilton County Police Association for the Most Constructive Plans or Ideas for Improvement of Police Operations.

In his recommendation for the award, UC Public Safety Director James Whalen called Herold a strong leader, writing about her passion for improving UCPD and implementing the recommendations given to UCPD by Exiger, an external monitoring company that was retained to improve the agency.

“In a relatively short period of time, Chief Herold has led the UCPD through the most difficult time the agency ever experienced to a position of professionalism and respect in the field of law enforcement. Through this accomplishment, Chief Herold has truly demonstrated superior achievement in police leadership,” Whalen wrote.

Herold appreciated the award, but credited the officers and staff that performed the work to improve the UCPD.

“I was honored to receive the award, however, this is really a reflection of our team and their commitment to improving and growing the UCPD,” Herold said.
