US News and World Report: Rising obesity rates undermining strides made against heart disease
UC cardiologist offers insight on troubling trend
Richard Becker, MD, director of the UC Heart, Lung and Vascular Institute and the UC Division of Cardiovascular Health and Disease, is helping to educate the nation about the impact rising obesity rates are having in combating heart disease. Becker, also a UC Health cardiologist and spokesman for the American Heart Association, was interviewed by U.S. News and World Report about a study showing rising obesity rates, coupled with increasing incidences of diabetes and high blood pressure, are undoing decades of gains made against heart disease.
Becker is the Stonehill Endowed Professor of Medicine in the UC College of Medicine.
