NPR: Transgender health protections reversed by Trump administration
UC faculty member Tia Sheree Gaynor cited in multiple news outlets on new health care rules
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services finalized a rule June 12 that follows on federal court rulings finding the Obama administration overreached when it issued an unusual rule prohibiting discrimination in health care and health insurance on the basis of patients’ “internal sense of gender.”
The ruling was covered in Shots/Health News From NPR with comments by Tia Sheree Gaynor, an assistant professor in UC’s Department of Political Science.
“I can’t help but wonder if the timing [of this rule] is by design so that this is something that people won’t pay attention to,” Gaynor told NPR.
The ruling was also covered by The Epoch Times and NTD, citing Gaynor’s NPR interview.
Gaynor’s esearch focuses on issues related to social (in)justice, cultural competency and social equity within a U.S. and global context, particularly as it relates to underrepresented and marginalized populations. Specifically, her work explores intersectionality in public management and policy.
