UC political scientist Gregory Winger explains how election disinformation impacts public perception

Yahoo News picked up a news story by WCPO Cincinnati featuring election cyber-security expert Gregory Winger, a UC associate professor of political science.

The news feature focused on the onslaught of social media disinformation campaigns that are meant to derail trust the in 2020 election and future of American democracy.  Winger and colleagues at the UC Center for Cyber Strategy and Policy recently completed a study on the ways in which false information affects public perception.

In the interview, Winger states that by the time legitimate news sources counter these campaigns with accurate information, “the information environment, especially on social media, has become so polluted that it really is having a hard time resonating with the general population."
